A Story of Justice - Story
There’s a remarkable story from a small town that always reminds me of God’s call to justice and forgiveness. A young man named Eli had a troubled past. Years ago, in a moment of rage, he made a terrible choice that irrevocably changed another person’s life. He went to prison, and while there, he embraced the truth of his actions. He sought forgiveness from God and yearned to make amends.
After his release, Eli returned to his hometown, but he was met with disdain and judgment. People whispered and glared, reminding him of what he had done. Yet, Eli held on to a promise that echoed in his heart—Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Determined to seek justice, not just for himself but for the victim and the community, Eli opened a youth center. He shared his story with young people who were on the brink of making choices he regretted. Eli offered them guidance and hope, showing them a path away from darkness.
One evening, while hosting a community event, the victim's family walked in. The room fell silent, hearts pounding. Eli stood frozen, but then he stepped forward, eyes filled with tears. To his amazement, the family embraced him, proclaiming forgiveness. In that moment, the weight of shame lifted, replaced by the radiant light of hope and reconciliation.
