Aaron's Sacred Vestments: Christ's Unified Priestly Work
God commanded specific vestments for Aaron's service in the holy place: the ephod with its curious girdle, the breastplate, the robe of the ephod, and the mitre. Each detail reveals Christ's priesthood. The linen material—simple, natural—typifies the human nature Christ wears in His glorified state, in which He executes all services of His exalted Priesthood as our Representative.
Notably, all garments were carefully fastened together as one unified whole. The girdle bound the ephod; the ephod bound the robe; the breastplate joined to the ephod by chains of gold. This unity signifies the completeness of Christ's work for His people—it cannot be divided. If we possess Him in one office, we necessarily hold Him in all. There exists no partial pardon, no partial peace in Jesus. If you have one promise, you have every promise.
Unlike the garments described in Isaiah 59 or the armor of Ephesians 6, these are robes of peace, not war. The warfare is accomplished. Our Saviour, having triumphed over His enemies and ours, now sits in the calm and quiet of His holy, peaceful functions—a truth yielding unselfish joy to the Christian. The seamless robe represents the perfect obedience of Christ, the perfectness and unity of the righteousness He wrought for our sakes.
