Be Not Afraid, Only Believe: Christ's Word to the Trembling Seeker
When our Lord spoke these words to Jairus, He addressed not merely a synagogue ruler's private anguish, but the universal condition of every soul terrified by its own unworthiness. Christ's command divides into two classes of hearers: those dangerously unconcerned about salvation, whom the deceiver convinces that Elohim is too merciful to judge them; and those awakened by conscience, whom Satan now persuades that grace has expired and sin exceeds mercy.
To the troubled seeker Christ says: "Be not afraid that the day of grace is past." Your very concern for your soul proves Yahweh still calls you. While one desire remains in your heart—"Lord Jesus, if Thou wilt have mercy on such as I"—your season of opportunity endures. The day of grace cannot pass while you yet hunger for it.
Second, fear not that your sins multiply beyond divine mercy. You cannot measure the true weight of your transgressions, yet neither can you fathom the apeiraston (infinite) mercies of Adonai. When Christ commanded Jairus to "Only believe," He required no visible proof, no audible confirmation. The father possessed no alternative but distrust or trust. Precisely so today: the risen Christ stands as near to the penitent as He stood to Jairus. His power remains unchanged. Faith requires only this: that you cease defending yourself and surrender entirely to His saving will.
