Bonhoeffer's Final Strength - Lutheran (Philippians 4:13)

In April 1945, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was led to execution at Flossenbürg concentration camp. The camp doctor witnessed his death and wrote: "I have hardly ever seen a man die so entirely submissive to the will of God." Bonhoeffer had written from prison about "costly grace"—the grace that costs everything and gives everything. Philippians 4:13 doesn't promise escape from suffering but strength through it. Bonhoeffer could face the gallows because Christ strengthened him. The power is Christ's; we receive it.
