Built for the Flight

In 2007, a team of scientists led by Robert Gill at the U.S. Geological Survey tracked a bar-tailed godwit they called E7 as she flew from Alaska to New Zealand — 7,145 miles in nine days, nonstop. No rest. No food. No landing. The longest nonstop flight ever recorded for any bird on earth.

But what stunned researchers wasn't just the distance. It was what happened inside the bird's body before the journey began. In the weeks leading up to migration, the godwit's intestines, kidneys, and liver actually shrank — sometimes by twenty-five percent — to make room for the massive fat reserves needed to fuel the crossing. The bird's very organs reorganized themselves around a single purpose.

The same God who encoded a seven-thousand-mile journey into a bird weighing less than a pound has written purpose into your life.
