Christ the Heavenly Physician: Diagnosing the Soul's True Condition
Jesus declares, "They that be whole need not a physician"—a pronouncement that exposes the self-deception of the spiritually complacent. The Heavenly Physician addresses those who neglect His healing: those depending upon their own moral virtue, those trusting in religious duties alone, and those resting in correct doctrine without transformation.
Yet sin operates as a genuine nosema (disease) within the heart and character. It depresses the moral appetite, impairs the faculty of moral vision, induces spiritual stupor, and produces feverish agitation. This malady proves universal in extent, disastrous in consequence, and incurable by human remedy—requiring nothing less than Divine energy.
Christ, appointed by Adonai according to Isaiah 61:1, understands all cases and neglects none. His remedy is universally adapted, absolutely free, and infallibly efficacious. He employs manifold means of recovery: the affections that occasion loss, the reproving conscience that awakens awareness, and supremely His own precious blood. The soul that recognizes its spiritual sickness possesses the first mercy. Yet beware superficial healing, false recovery, and the forfeiture of gained health. Marvel at the costliness of redemption coupled with its freeness—and above all, at the character of the Giver Himself.
