Christ's Reign: Enemies Subdued Beneath His Feet
For He must reign till He hath put all enemies under His feet.—The reign of Christ establishes this world as His battlefield now; when this conflict ends, His reign concludes also. "He shall reign till," and no longer.
Who are Christ's enemies? All agencies opposing Elohim. Christ sits upon the throne for God; whatever in evil spirits, bad men, society, institutions, habits, or experiences wars against God wars against Christ. Additionally, all agencies threatening us belong to His enemies, for He reigns for us. Our cause is His cause. Every evil injuring or threatening us falls into categories: intellectual enemies—ignorance and error; moral enemies—sin in every form; physical enemies—pain, sickness, disease, death.
Christ's earthly ministry reveals this pattern. He came to battle, never touching any person except to bless them, yet He warred ceaselessly against evil powers that enslaved and victimized humanity. This battle continues through His true people, warring against ignorance, unrighteousness, and pain. We may be certain of His victory—not merely because Scripture declares it, but because Elohim Himself wages this conflict.
What should be our supreme care? First, seek personal deliverance. Ask yourself: will He put my enemies under His feet? It depends upon whether you surrender to His undertaking. Your faith must seize His strength. Second, take your part on His side. In this great conflict, neutrality does not exist. To serve Christ is honourable service; it is our own cause He contends for, costing Him His very life.
