Daily Science and Faith
Dear God of Discovery and Wonder,
When Paul entrusted his letter to the Romans — arguably the most important theological document ever written — he placed it in the hands of Phoebe, a diakonos, a deacon and patron of the church at Cenchreae. She carried that fragile scroll across the Mediterranean, navigating by the stars. Phoebe read the night sky the way a scientist reads data — with precision, with trust in observable patterns, with confidence that the Creator's handiwork would not mislead her.
Lord, remind me that faith has never been the enemy of honest inquiry. The same God who spoke the cosmos into being invites us to study it with open eyes and humble hearts. When Galileo peered through his telescope and saw the moons of Jupiter, he did not find less of You — he found more. When a geneticist maps the human genome, she traces the brushstrokes of a Master Artist working at a scale that staggers the imagination.
Give me the courage of Phoebe — willing to carry truth into unfamiliar territory, trusting that Your word and Your world will never finally contradict each other. Help me hold my questions with the same reverence I hold my certainties, knowing that both are offerings You receive with delight.
