Divine Providence Ruling Over Civil Strife and National Division
"And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians." — Divine providence operates through civil strife in ways that perplex human judgment. This principle governs controversies in cabinets, families, and nations across all ages. Men are astonished when brothers turn upon one another with disdain and cruel hatred. Such division appears sorrowful and, viewed narrowly, seems to reflect poorly upon Providence itself.
Yet Elohim refuses to be judged by the four corners of human imagination or criticism. He accomplishes His purposes within a measured field, governed by declarations bearing the mystery and graciousness of evangelical prophecies. We must examine not merely the incident in isolation, but all its surroundings and ultimate issues.
When household difficulties perplex us, when commercial perplexities emerge, when unions dissolve into sourness and alienation, we must never forget: there is One who rules over all. The strife between Egyptians served Yahweh's judgment upon Egypt's idolatry and pride. Internal division became the instrument of divine correction.
This does not vindicate cruelty or excuse human malice, but rather anchors our comprehension of seemingly chaotic events within God's sovereign purposes. The pastor preaching Isaiah 19:2 must help congregants see beyond immediate discord to the providential hand working toward redemption, even through the darkest national conflicts.
