Eighteen Mirrors, One Image

The James Webb Space Telescope carries eighteen hexagonal mirror segments, each one precisely ground from beryllium and coated in a whisper-thin layer of gold. No single mirror can capture the image alone. Each segment reflects a slightly different angle of the same distant light. Only when all eighteen are aligned to within nanometers — a fraction of the width of a human hair — does the telescope produce those breathtaking images of galaxies formed thirteen billion years ago.

NASA engineers did not assign those mirrors randomly. Each was mapped to a specific position, a specific tilt, a specific contribution to the whole. Shift one out of alignment, and the image blurs into noise.

Purpose works the same way in the Body of Christ. Paul told the Corinthians that God has arranged every member "just as He wished" (1 Corinthians 12:18). Your calling is not interchangeable with someone else's. The teacher cannot say to the mercy-giver, "I have no need of you." The prayer warrior cannot replace the one who shows up with a casserole at exactly the right moment.

You may feel like one small mirror in a vast instrument, reflecting only a narrow sliver of light. But the Engineer who shaped you and set you in place knew precisely what angle of His glory only you could capture.

When you live in alignment with His design, the world sees something it could never see without you.
