Eternal Light: No Night in Heaven's Perfection
"There shall be no night there" (Revelation 21:5). In our present state, night brings necessary rest to weary bodies and overburdened minds. Yet the blessings of darkness are tethered entirely to trouble, labor, and imperfection. The light that has come into the world shines in a dark place, and many who hear that Christ died to save sinners turn away when told this calls them to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts.
Those who humbly accept that light walk in increasing brightness, yet even their path falls far short of perfect day. The Christian's earthly life remains darkened by ignorance of God's character and ways. He knows enough for salvation, but not enough to satisfy his longing. God's dispensations remain mysterious; Satan tempts him to doubt God's love, truth, and word. Frequently, sorrow and death darken his vision as friends pass beyond his reach.
But in heaven, there are no graves, no funerals, no more sorrow or sighing—no night at all. Those who meditate much upon heaven receive foretastes of what Elohim has prepared, like the clusters of Eshcol that revealed Canaan's richness to Israel's spies. The inheritance of the saints is transcendently glorious, not merely a matter of report. As Isaiah promised, those who wait upon the Lord enter into understanding of this eternal perfection.
