Evening Prayer: Economic Inequality & Generosity
Dear Heavenly Father,
As I pause in the stillness of this evening, I am reminded of the powerful parable you shared in Luke 10:25-37. The story of the Good Samaritan calls me to confront the uncomfortable reality of economic inequality. Picture this: a man, stripped of his dignity, lying wounded by the roadside, ignored by those who should have helped him. Yet, it was the one who was considered an outsider—the Samaritan—who stopped, bandaged his wounds, and lifted him up.
In what ways am I like the priest or the Levite, walking past opportunities to show love and grace? Lord, open my eyes to see the faces of those around me—those whose struggles may be hidden beneath the surface, whose stories echo with despair in a world that often turns away.
Help me, Father, to be a beacon of hope in the shadows of economic disparity. Let my hands and heart become instruments of your generosity, whether it’s through sharing my resources, volunteering my time, or simply listening to someone’s story. Teach me that true generosity doesn’t just come from abundance, but from a heart willing to give, even when it feels inconvenient.
