Evening Prayer: Self-Deception - Biblical Insight
Dear Heavenly Father,
As I pause in the stillness of this evening, I find myself pondering the often deceptive nature of my own heart. In Colossians 1:15-20, Paul paints a breathtaking picture of Christ—the image of the invisible God, the One through whom all things were created. This profound truth compels me to consider how I sometimes misrepresent Your light by allowing self-deception to cloud my vision and actions.
Imagine, if you will, a lighthouse shrouded in fog. Its beam, meant to guide sailors safely to shore, becomes lost in the mist. Lord, I recognize that I can become that lighthouse—shining bright one moment and dimmed by the fog of my own illusions the next. Help me to see the areas in my life where I’ve allowed self-deception to take root, where I’ve told myself that I am fine when I am not, or that I can do this on my own without surrendering to Your grace.
Guide me, Lord, to not only confront my own shadows but to shine Your light into the lives of others. May my vulnerability and honesty encourage those around me to step out of their own fog. As I pursue Your truth, may I reflect Your character—a character marked by love, hope, and healing.
