Evening Prayer: Social Media and Community
Dear Father, the Earth is Yours — every mountain peak and every glowing screen, every cathedral and every comment section. Psalm 24:1 declares that the earth is the Lord's and everything in it. That includes the digital spaces where billions of Your image-bearers gather each night, scrolling through loneliness they cannot name.
Tonight I bring before You the strange new commons we have built — platforms where a missionary in Manila and a single mother in Memphis can share the same prayer request within seconds, yet where cruelty travels even faster than compassion. Lord, You who poured out Your Spirit at Pentecost so that every tongue could hear the wonders of God, pour out that same Spirit now on Your people as we navigate these digital streets.
Forgive me for the times I have scrolled past someone's cry for help as casually as the priest who crossed to the other side of the road. Forgive me for the posts I fired off in anger, when Your Word says the tongue — and the keyboard — holds the power of life and death.
Give me Holy Spirit discernment to know when to speak and when to listen, when to engage and when to set the phone down and be still before You. Make my online presence a living altar — a place where someone who is drowning in despair might stumble upon a word of genuine hope and know that they are seen by the God who owns it all.
