Evil Spirits Recognize Christ's Supremacy Over All Creation
When unclean spirits beheld Christ, they fell before Him—a confession wrung from the abyss itself. The universe trembled at His advent. The diseased crowded for healing; the teachable gathered for celestial wisdom; the curious witnessed stupendous miracles. Yet His audience transcended the visible: Heaven and hell attended His steps. The Father spoke from excellent glory; the Holy Ghost descended upon Him; sinless angels followed in His train; and demons of the abyss pronounced His eulogy, deprecating His wrath.
Why this mighty congregation from the remotest points of creation? Where the King is, there is the Court. Every type of moral being surrounded our Lord.
First, impiety stands abashed in the presence of holiness. Devils, conscious of their own degradation, cower before moral purity. Falsehood falls slain by the glittering sword of truth. Felix trembles before Paul's words of righteousness, temperance, and judgment—shaken by invisible memories more powerful than visible foes. Evil confesses the superiority of good; vice crowns virtue with lasting garland; sin declares holiness infinitely above itself.
Second, divine truth may be intellectually recognized without salvation's accompaniment. A man may vindicate truth against all opponents without embracing it, contend earnestly for the faith without adopting it, construct elaborate theology without fellowship with the Saviour.
Third, demons acknowledge the supremacy of the Son of God over all creatures, regardless of moral character or position.
