Finding God in Online Church & Community - Story
In the heart of a bustling city, there was a small coffee shop known as "The Gathering Place." Its walls were adorned with art from local artists, and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the laughter and conversations of patrons. It became a sanctuary for many, a place where people from different walks of life—young and old, families and singles—could come together, share stories, and support one another.
But then came the pandemic, and the doors of The Gathering Place closed, replaced by a stark digital landscape. People were left longing for that sense of community, feeling isolated as they stared at screens instead of each other’s faces. Yet, amidst this challenge, something beautiful began to bloom.
A group of friends decided to host a weekly online gathering, inspired by Galatians 3:28, which reminds us that in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female. They realized that this verse spoke powerfully into their situation of isolation: they could still be one body, even miles apart.
Each week, they would meet virtually, engaging not just in prayer and worship but also sharing their personal struggles and triumphs. They created a digital space that felt more like a living room than a sterile Zoom call—complete with a virtual coffee hour where they’d sip their drinks and chat casually.
