Finding God in Political Division & Unity - Biblical Analogy
In a world fraught with political discord, it often feels as though we are navigating a turbulent sea, with waves of division crashing around us. Yet, this is not the first time God’s people have faced such storms. Imagine a small boat on the Sea of Galilee, tossed by fierce winds, the disciples inside filled with fear and uncertainty. They were fishermen, accustomed to the waters, yet this storm was unlike any they had encountered. In their moment of panic, Jesus was asleep in the stern, seemingly unfazed by their plight.
When they finally woke Him, pleading for help, He rose and spoke a simple command: "Peace! Be still!" Instantly, the winds died down, and there was a great calm. This vivid scene from Mark 4 reminds us that amidst our own turbulent discussions about politics, Jesus still calls us to trust in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." This wisdom is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. When we place our trust in God, we find clarity in confusing times.
Let us think of our own communities as those small boats on the sea. With every word we speak and every action we take, we have the power to either stir up waves of division or to cultivate a spirit of unity. In leaning on God's wisdom, we can be instruments of peace, bringing hope to our divided world, just as the disciples found peace in the presence of Christ.
