Finding We Have What We Need to Practice Love in Everyday Moments
In our fast-paced world, filled with noise and distraction, it can feel as though our capacity to love is stretched thin. Yet, when we look to the teachings of Jesus in Mark 10:42-45, we find a profound call to redefine what it means to lead. Jesus challenges us to embrace servanthood, illuminating the path toward radical love and justice in our communities.
Let me share a story of a woman named Maria, a single mother who, like many of us, faced her own struggles. One evening, as she was walking home from work, she noticed a young boy sitting on the curb, head bowed and tears streaming down his face. In that moment, Maria’s heart pulsed with the compassion that Jesus speaks about. She could have hurried past, overwhelmed by her own burdens, but instead, she knelt beside him. They talked for hours, sharing stories of their struggles and dreams.
Maria didn’t have all the answers, but she offered her presence, a listening ear, and a comforting hug. In that encounter, she practiced love in its purest form. Jesus calls us to embrace these everyday moments where we can be vessels of hope and justice, reminding us that we always have what we need to practice love—whether it’s a simple conversation or an act of kindness.
In embracing the radical nature of love, we can transform our world, bringing forth the shalom (peace) that God desires for all creation. Let us lean into this journey together, knowing that each act of love, no matter how small, contributes to the tapestry of a more just and compassionate community.
