Five Roles of the Devoted Servant of God's Word
The psalmist presents five portraits of the believer utterly committed to Yahweh's instruction. Each represents a distinct posture before the throne of the Almighty.
First, the pleader (verse 170) approaches with urgent petition—"Let my cry come before thee, O Lord." This is the soul that recognizes its desperate need and brings honest supplication to Adonai.
Second, the singer (verse 171) responds with exuberant praise: "My lips shall utter praise." Not mere intellectual assent, but overflowing joy expressed in melody—the heart cannot contain what grace has done.
Third, the preacher (verse 172) becomes a herald of divine statutes: "My tongue shall speak of thy word." The believer becomes a channel through which Elohim's truth flows to others, unable to remain silent.
