From the Stock Room to the Super Bowl

In 1994, Kurt Warner was stocking shelves at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, earning $5.50 an hour. The NFL had already told him he wasn't good enough. The Green Bay Packers had cut him before he ever took a regular season snap. By every measurable standard, his football career was finished before it started.

But Warner kept throwing. He played in the Arena Football League for the Iowa Barnstormers, then suited up for NFL Europe's Amsterdam Admirals. Nobody was watching. Nobody was scouting. He was a twenty-seven-year-old nobody playing in leagues most fans had never heard of.

Then in 1999, when the St. Louis Rams' starting quarterback Trent Green tore his ACL in the preseason, Warner got his chance. He didn't just fill in. He threw for 4,353 yards, forty-one touchdowns, and led the Rams to a Super Bowl XXXIV victory. He was named league MVP. The grocery store clerk became one of the most electrifying quarterbacks the game had ever seen.

The raw material was always there. What changed was the opportunity to become what he was made to be.

The Apostle Paul writes that anyone who is in Christ is a new creation — the old has gone, the new has come. God doesn't look at where you are stocking shelves today. The Almighty sees the person He designed you to become. Transformation rarely happens on the timeline we expect. But when God opens the door, everything you've been through becomes preparation, not waste.
