God Lays Up Sound Wisdom for the Righteous
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous.—Proverbs 2:7
The righteous are those who embody virtue, morality, and religion through justice to themselves, to others, and to Elohim. They walk uprightly—their goodness is not stationary but progressive—and are consecrated to God's service, living temples of the Holy Ghost.
God stands as the exhaustless fountain of intelligence, the "Father of lights," illuminating instinct, reason, genius, and conscience. Wherever truth gleams and virtue flourishes, there God is recognized and worshipped.
Yet we are ill keepers of our own goodness and wisdom. Therefore Elohim is pleased to lay it up for us, Himself becoming buckler and safeguard. The word toshubot (sound wisdom) signifies essence and being—that which endures while other things pass away. This wisdom constitutes the well-being of man and supports all things that are.
As a buckler receives the blows directed at another, so God receives the wrongs done to the righteous as wrongs done to Himself. He interposes His own person between His beloved and their adversaries. The enemies of the righteous must strike through Elohim Himself to injure them. He superintends their career, provides for their instruction, and vouchsafes their ultimate perfection.
Like a tree planted by refreshing waters that flourishes despite sultry heat, the soul receiving continual infusions of Divine truth grows happy and flourishing amidst all life's inconveniences.
