God's Faithfulness Stands Regardless of Ours
The Psalmist declares that God's testimonies are "very faithful"—a faithfulness that rests upon three immovable pillars. First, they are grounded in a faithful covenant diatheke—a binding agreement sealed by Yahweh Himself, not dependent upon the wavering heart of man. Second, this covenant stands confirmed by faithful promises that God has sworn by His own name, each one as solid as the foundations of creation. Third, these promises are carried out by a faithful Redeemer—Christ Himself—who executes every word of grace with perfect fidelity.
Spurgeon reminds us that believers have enjoyed this faithfulness hitherto—throughout all the chapters of their spiritual pilgrimage, God has never once failed to sustain His own. Yet the profoundest comfort lies in what follows: "Though we believe not, yet he abideth faithful." Our inconsistency cannot annul His constancy. Our doubt cannot diminish His dedication. When our faith trembles like a leaf in autumn wind, Adonai remains unmoved, unshakeable, absolutely reliable. We may stumble in trust; He never stumbles in keeping covenant. The believer who has learned this truth rests not upon the strength of personal conviction but upon the unbreakable character of God Himself.
