This detail reveals that Elohim directs every dispensation of suffering with absolute governance. He orders their agents: each of the seven angels is sent forth by His command, "Go your ways." The Supreme Governor conducts universal affairs through secondary instrumentalities; not a single pain quivers in any sentient being except from His direction.

He appoints their seasons: the seven angels do not act simultaneously but each in its appointed period. He fixes their places with meticulous precision: the first vial upon the earth, the second upon the sea, the third upon rivers and fountains, the fourth upon the sun, the fifth upon the throne of the beast, the sixth upon the Euphrates, the seventh into the air. He determines their character: sufferings manifest through physical diseases, social bereavements, secular losses, mental perplexities, and moral anguish. As Scripture affirms, "Every heart knoweth its own bitterness."
