Guided by What They Cannot See

The European robin migrates thousands of miles each autumn, navigating with stunning precision across entire continents. For decades, scientists could not explain how. Then in 2021, a team led by Peter Hore and Henrik Mouritsen published a landmark study in Nature showing that a protein called cryptochrome 4, found in the robin's retina, is sensitive to Earth's magnetic field. The bird doesn't just sense the field. It likely sees it — a faint wash of light and shadow guiding every wingbeat across featureless ocean and unfamiliar sky.

The robin doesn't understand magnetism. It has no compass it can hold, no map it can unfold. It simply trusts what it perceives and flies.

Faith works like that. Hebrews 11:1 tells us faith is "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." We cannot always explain why we sense God pulling us forward. But something deep within us — placed there by the Creator Himself — responds to His leading.

The robin doesn't wait until it understands quantum biology before it migrates. It spreads its wings and goes. And every year, it arrives.

You may not be able to diagram the path the Almighty has laid before you. But the One who wove direction into the eye of a bird has woven something far deeper into your soul. Trust what He has placed within you. Spread your wings and fly.
