Heaven Torn Open: Matthew 3:13-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
He came. The one John had been announcing, the one whose sandals John was unworthy to carry—he walked out of Galilee and stood in line with sinners waiting for baptism.
But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"
John recognized him. The prophet who had denounced Pharisees and Sadducees now stood face to face with the Coming One—and felt his own unworthiness. The baptizer needed baptizing.
