Hidden Blueprints

In 1864, German zoologist August Weismann peered through his microscope at something no one had properly understood before. Inside the chrysalis of a dissolving caterpillar, he discovered clusters of cells he called "imaginal discs" — tiny blueprints for an entirely new creature. What happens inside that chrysalis is more radical than most of us realize. The caterpillar doesn't simply sprout wings. Its body releases digestive enzymes that break down nearly every tissue into a formless biological soup. To any outside observer, it would look like destruction, not creation. But those imaginal discs survive the dissolution. They were embedded in the caterpillar from the very beginning, waiting. And they use that nutrient-rich soup — the dissolved remains of the old life — to construct something breathtakingly new: compound eyes, coiled proboscis, wings thin as stained glass.

This is what the Apostle Paul meant when he wrote, "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here." Transformation in the hands of the Almighty is not renovation. It is not God patching up what was broken. It is God dissolving what was and raising what shall be.

If you are in a season where everything familiar seems to be falling apart, take heart. The blueprints for who you are becoming were placed in you by your Creator long before the breaking began. What feels like an ending may be exactly where your new life is being assembled.
