Human Value Purchased by Christ's Precious Blood
Ye are of more value.—The worth of human nature flows from four sources, according to Dr. H. W. Williams: First, from the capacities inherent in that nature itself. Second, from the fact that mankind is the object of special regard and care by Divine Providence. Third, from its everlasting destiny beyond the grave. Fourth, and most crucially, from the redemption purchased by the blood of the incarnate Son of God.
Consider what we treasure: we hold precious those things acquired at great price, storing them among our most valued possessions. We reckon gold, silver, jewels, and precious stones among earth's most valuable things—materials that catch and reflect the sun's rays. Men venture everything, even life itself, for such treasures. Yet shall not Almighty God reckon as infinitely precious those whom His only begotten Son hath redeemed with His most precious blood? Shall He not hold in exceeding value those for whom He has reserved mansions in His heavenly house, where they may abide forever? They become to Him as pearls of great price, as jewels numbered with joyful care—those who, being conformed to the image of His Son, who is their light and their righteousness, shine in their works and glorify their Father.
