Lessons from Courage - Story
In a small town, there lived a young girl named Ella, whose heart was as big as her dreams. Each autumn, she would gather her friends to pick pumpkins for the church’s annual harvest festival. This year, however, Ella noticed a new boy at school named Tom, who sat alone during lunch. He was shy, and the other kids didn’t quite know how to approach him.
That Saturday morning, as Ella and her friends laughed and picked the biggest pumpkins they could find, she spotted Tom on the edge of the field. She felt a flutter of fear—what if he didn’t want to join them? What if her friends didn’t accept him? But then she remembered the words from John 3:16, “For God so loved the world…” The courage to love past her own fears blossomed in her heart.
With a deep breath, she walked over to Tom. “Hey, want to help us pick pumpkins?” she asked, her voice steady. Tom’s eyes lit up, and before long, Ella had not just invited him into their pumpkin patch but into their community. That day, their laughter echoed through the fields, and Tom found a place where he belonged.
Ella’s simple act of courage opened the door for a new friendship. Just as God embraces us with agape love—unconditional and fearless—He calls us to embrace others. We don’t need to be perfect to extend His love; we just need the courage to step out in faith, trusting that we are all worthy of relationship in His eyes.
