Lessons from Faithfulness - Story

There’s a story I want to share about a young man named Malik, who grew up in our community. Malik was the kind of kid who always had a smile on his face, but he faced his share of struggles. His family didn’t have much, and temptations were always around him, whispering that it would be easier to take shortcuts in life.

One summer, Malik’s grandmother, who was his anchor, encouraged him to work in the church garden. “You’ll learn patience and the beauty of growth,” she said. At first, Malik was skeptical. Digging in the dirt didn’t seem appealing, but he obeyed her. Day after day, he planted seeds, watered them, and watched them sprout. As weeks passed, he witnessed the transformation—tiny seeds becoming vibrant flowers and nourishing vegetables.

But here’s the real lesson: every time he returned to that garden, he felt a deepening sense of purpose. The act of nurturing those plants mirrored his own spiritual journey. In Galatians 5:22-23, we read about the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience. Malik learned that faithfulness is not just about believing but about actively participating in God’s transformative work. Just like those seeds, his faith began to root deeply, giving him guidance and resilience.

As he stood in that garden, surrounded by the very fruits of his labor, Malik realized that faithfulness isn’t just a trait; it’s a path.
