Lessons from Kindness - Contemporary Example
A few months ago, I received a message from a young woman named Lily. She shared that she had recently moved to a new city for a job opportunity. Excited yet terrified, she felt isolated and unsure about her place in this unfamiliar community. One evening, after a long day at work, she stumbled upon a small coffee shop, its warm lights glowing like an invitation.
As she entered, the barista, noticing her hesitation, greeted her with a genuine smile and asked how her day was going. Lily, taken aback by the kindness in a stranger’s eyes, shared her story. To her surprise, the barista, named Ruth, listened intently, offering not just her sympathy but also a sense of belonging. Ruth shared her own journey of moving to the city, expressing how kindness from others had helped her find her footing.
Over the following weeks, Ruth included Lily in a small community group that gathered weekly for coffee and prayer. Each gathering transformed Lily’s heart, as she discovered friendship and support.
As I reflected on this, I was reminded of God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11, where He declares plans for our hope and future. Just like Ruth’s simple act of kindness helped guide Lily, our kindness can be a catalyst for transformation, creating a ripple effect of love in our communities. Let us be those who, like Ruth, extend our hands and hearts to those around us, nurturing spiritual growth through our connections and compassion.
