Lessons from Peace - Story
It was a chilly autumn evening when I found myself wandering through a local park, wrapped in a scarf and lost in thought. The trees, vibrant with oranges and golds, rustled softly in the wind, creating a symphony of whispers. As I strolled along the path, I noticed a small boy sitting on a bench, his face buried in his hands.
Curious, I approached him and asked what was wrong. Through muffled sobs, he told me he had lost his favorite toy, a little wooden train that had been a gift from his grandfather. The boy felt a deep connection to that train; it was not just a toy; it was a symbol of love and remembrance.
As I knelt beside him, I recalled the words from Galatians 5:22-23 about the fruit of the Spirit, particularly eirene—peace. I gently shared with him that while losing something we cherish can feel overwhelming, it is in those moments that we often discover a deeper sense of trust and connection. I suggested we pray together, asking God to guide him through the hurt and to bring peace to his heart, knowing that love endures beyond loss.
In that quiet moment, as we prayed, the boy’s tears began to dry, and a faint smile emerged. He realized that even though his train was gone, the love it represented would never leave him.
