Lessons from Understanding - Story
There’s a small garden in my neighborhood that never fails to capture my attention. It belongs to an elderly woman named Ruth, who tenderly tends to it every day. One afternoon, I watched her inspect each plant with a gaze that radiated both love and understanding. As she bent down to prune a struggling tomato plant, I noticed something remarkable: despite the plant’s frail appearance, its roots had spread wide beneath the soil, reaching for the nutrients it desperately needed.
In that moment, I was struck by a realization. Just as those roots dig deep, seeking sustenance, God invites us to do the same in our spiritual journeys. Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In the stillness, we find clarity and guidance, and like Ruth with her garden, we learn to nurture our faith through understanding.
Ruth didn’t simply water her plants or pull weeds; she watched and listened. She understood their needs intimately. Similarly, God calls us to cultivate a deep relationship with Him—one that grows through prayer, scripture, and reflection.
As we lean into our relationship with God, we begin to truly understand our purpose. We grow not only in knowledge but in faith, trusting that He is working beneath the surface of our lives, just as those roots do. So, let us be still, and like Ruth, let us cultivate an understanding that leads us to greater faith and hope.
