Man's Coming Dominion Under Christ's Sovereignty
"But we see Jesus"—and in Him, the promise of man's ultimate dominion. Not yet are all things in subjection to humanity, yet this sovereignty shall come. Man will one day master the material forces of creation—the energies of the universe—learning through love how to unlock nature's treasures as continuations of spiritual truth. More profoundly still, the Spirit's rule over sense, sin, and Satan constitutes the true dominion: sovereignty over the invisible essence that makes us human.
God has not subjected the coming world to angels, those swift-winged messengers (Hebrew: mal'akhim) who serve His will. Rather, dominion passes to men and women like ourselves—mortals who labor with sheep and oxen, who engage science and art, whose lives are fragile as dewdrops yet strong enough to destroy themselves through sin. We are "made a little lower than Elohim, and crowned with glory," destined to inherit His rule.
But to which men is this scepter finally granted? Not to particular races or nations. God respects neither skin colour nor geography in His choices. The conquering race is the godly race—of any colour, country, or time. In the "new man, which is being renewed unto knowledge after the image of Him that created him," there exists no distinction: "Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, African, Hindu"—all are one in Christ's dominion.
