Morning Meditation: Enemy Love - Story
Imagine waking up one morning, sunlight streaming through your window, and you’re met with the realization that the world outside is not as it should be. News of conflict, division, and hatred spills forth from every source, and perhaps the hardest truth to grapple with is that some of those voices belong to people we once called friends or neighbors. In these moments, when “enemy love” beckons us to respond differently, we can find wisdom in Psalm 24:1: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”
Picture a small village that had been torn apart by strife. In this village lived a man who had lost everything to a neighbor’s greed. One day, as he sat on the steps of his humble home, he felt the gentle nudge of the Spirit urging him to do the unthinkable: to bake bread and share it with the neighbor who had wronged him. With each loaf, he prayed for healing, not just for himself, but for his community.
As the aroma wafted through the air, something remarkable happened. The neighbor, touched by unexpected kindness, came to his door. This act of enemy love opened a path to reconciliation, and soon the village gathered around a table, sharing stories and laughter, transforming a wound into a tapestry of hope.
God is calling us too—into the depths of compassion and justice. He invites us to see beyond our hurts and reach out with love that transcends our understanding. Each of us has the power to be a catalyst for change in our world, to reflect the divine image we bear. Let us embrace our calling to love bravely, to be vessels of His grace, and to transform the darkness around us into the radiant light of His kingdom. In doing so, we embody the very essence of the One who came to bring good news to the poor and freedom to the oppressed. Amen.
