Nature Illustration: Mountains, Valleys, and Pilgrimage
On a recent hike through the majestic Rockies, I found myself standing at the base of a towering mountain. Its jagged peaks seemed to scrape the very heavens, a stunning reminder of God’s grandeur. As I gazed upwards, a warm breeze whispered through the trees, carrying with it the scent of pine and promise. That moment reminded me of Revelation 21:1-5, where John speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, of God wiping away every tear and making all things new.
Yet, as beautiful as the mountain was, I knew I couldn’t camp there indefinitely. Just as life calls us into the valleys and up the slopes, our spiritual journey leads us through both serene moments and challenging terrains. There, in the valleys, we often feel lost, overwhelmed, as if the mountain of our hopes is beyond reach. But it’s in these depths where we find clarity and purpose. Just as pilgrims of old traversed rugged paths to reach a sacred site, we, too, are called to navigate life’s ups and downs with faith.
Every step taken, whether upward or downward, refines our spirit and shapes our understanding of God’s promise. The peaks may awe us, but it is the valleys that teach us resilience, drawing us closer to the heart of God. In this sacred pilgrimage, let us hold tightly to the hope that all things will be made new, not just in the world to come, but in our lives today.
