Nature Illustration: Seeds, Roots, and Fruitfulness
A few springs ago, I found myself kneeling in the garden, fingers buried in the rich, dark soil. I was planting seeds—tiny, unassuming things that held the promise of life and beauty. As I pushed each seed into the earth, I was reminded of Genesis 1:1-5, where God spoke light into existence, separating day from night. Just like those first moments of creation, I felt a breath of awe and humility wash over me.
Each seed seemed a testament to divine intention. The sunflower seed, so small and inconspicuous, would one day stretch towards the heavens, its vibrant petals a joyful proclamation of God’s artistry. But first, it needed to take root in the darkness, to grow and push through the soil. That process—hidden and often unseen—spoke volumes about our spiritual growth in Christ.
Just as the sun’s light broke forth on that first day, illuminating the world, we too need the Light to guide us through our own dark places. It reassures us that even when we feel buried beneath our challenges, there is purpose in the waiting. There is hope in the unseen work of the roots that stretch deep, seeking nourishment.
As we reflect on our own lives, let us remember that we are not merely waiting. We are growing—preparing to bear the fruit of love, kindness, and purpose that God has planted within us. Each of us, like those seeds, is destined to rise, reaching towards the light of Christ, to fulfill the calling set before us.
