Nature Illustration: Soil, Tending, and Cultivation
There is a quaint little community garden at the edge of our town, a patch of earth where neighbors gather, not just to grow vegetables but to grow relationships. One spring day, I watched as a group of children, armed with tiny trowels and hopeful smiles, began to dig in the rich, dark soil. Their laughter filled the air as they unearthed worms, marveling at the life beneath their feet.
As they planted seeds—tiny, seemingly insignificant things—I was reminded of Romans 1:20, which tells us that the invisible qualities of God are clearly seen through creation. Those seeds, much like our faith, held potential that lay dormant, waiting for the right conditions to flourish. The children, however, knew that mere planting was not enough. They tended to their garden with diligence, watering, weeding, and nurturing their tiny sprouts.
In our spiritual lives, God invites us to do the same. We must regularly check the soil of our hearts, ensuring it is rich with prayer, scripture, and community. Just as that garden required tender care to yield a bountiful harvest, our souls require intentional cultivation.
As we engage deeply with the creation around us—its beauty and complexity—we can find guidance and purpose. Like the children in the garden, we can be filled with awe at how God’s handiwork reflects His presence and power, nurturing our spiritual growth one seed at a time. Let us lean into that cultivation, trusting in the incredible transformation that God promises.
