A few years back, I found myself on a small boat, navigating the turbulent waters of a lake during an unexpected storm. The wind howled like a wild animal, and the waves thrashed against the hull, threatening to pull us under. As I gripped the sides of the boat, my heart raced, and a wave of panic washed over me. I could barely see through the sheets of rain, and for a moment, hope felt distant.

But then, through the chaos, I spotted the silhouette of a sturdy lighthouse standing tall on the shore. Its beam sliced through the darkness, illuminating the path back to safety. I realized then that the lighthouse wasn’t just a structure; it was a refuge. In that moment of fear, I felt a shift — a quiet trust blossomed in my heart. I had a guide, a point of reference that promised safety amidst the storm.

John 1:1-5 reminds us that Jesus is the Word, the light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. Like the lighthouse amidst the storm, Christ stands as our refuge in times of turmoil, illuminating our path and guiding us with unwavering hope. When we find ourselves battered by life's storms, we can lean into that light, trusting in His presence, and letting our faith grow stronger as we journey toward Him. In every gust of wind, every crashing wave, we are called to trust in the One who brings us home.
