No One Finishes Alone

In the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, British sprinter Derek Redmond lined up for the 400-meter semi-final with everything he had trained for on the line. Halfway around the track, his hamstring snapped. He crumpled to the ground while the other runners surged past him toward the finish.

What happened next became one of the most replayed moments in Olympic history. Redmond pulled himself up and began hobbling forward, determined to finish. Then a large man pushed past security and ran onto the track. It was Jim Redmond — Derek's father. He wrapped his son's arm around his shoulder and said, "We're going to finish this together." Step by agonizing step, father and son crossed the finish line while 65,000 people rose to their feet in tears.

Derek Redmond did not win a medal that day. But he showed the world something more valuable than gold — that the deepest strength we will ever know comes not from individual effort but from someone willing to bear our weight when we cannot carry it ourselves.

The apostle Paul wrote, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2). The Christian life was never designed as a solo race. The Almighty placed us in communities — in churches, in families, in friendships — so that when our legs give out, someone is already running toward us.
