Take architecture for an example. An architect says: "Ah, here's the stone in the ground. Here's the ore in the ground, but I'm not going to leave it there. I'm going to take out the raw materials, and I'm going to form them into bridges and buildings."
Why? So there can be human interaction, so there can be human culture, so there can be human society, so I can get across the river to visit you, so I can watch a hockey game or enjoy a good play with you.
