Quiet Time: Dismantling Tyrannical Leadership
Loving God, You who toppled Pharaoh's chariots and lifted the downtrodden from the dust,
I come to You this morning carrying the weight of a world where power still crushes the vulnerable. Micah 6:8 asks what You require of me — to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You. Three commands so simple a child could memorize them, yet so demanding that entire nations have failed to live them out.
Lord, I confess that tyranny doesn't always wear a crown. Sometimes it wears a smile in a boardroom while silencing every voice but its own. Sometimes it sits in a church pew, wielding scripture like a weapon to keep others small. Sometimes — and this is the hardest confession — it lives in my own heart, in the moments I choose control over compassion, my agenda over Your justice.
The Baptist tradition I stand in was born from defiance of religious tyranny. My spiritual ancestors refused to let kings dictate their conscience. Give me even a fraction of that holy courage. Teach me to speak when silence would be easier, to stand with the overlooked when sitting down would be safer, and to lead — when You call me to lead — with open hands rather than a clenched fist.
