Real-World Technology & Human Connection - Teaching Material
As we reflect on James 1:27, which calls us to care for orphans and widows in their distress and to keep ourselves from being polluted by the world, I invite you to consider how technology intersects with our human connections. In our increasingly digital lives, the challenge is stark: Are we nurturing our relationships, or are we allowing screens to replace genuine encounters?
This week, I urge you to take a moment and examine your own digital habits. Perhaps set aside a day to unplug, to step back from the buzz of notifications and social media. Use that time to connect with someone who may be feeling isolated—maybe it's a neighbor who recently lost a loved one or a friend who is struggling with loneliness. A handwritten note, a phone call, or even an invitation for coffee can speak volumes.
In addition, engage your community by exploring local initiatives that bridge the gap between technology and human connection. Consider volunteering with a group that promotes digital literacy for seniors, helping them navigate the very tools that can both connect and isolate us.
Make it a practice to pray daily, asking God to reveal how He wants you to engage in this digital age. What small act of kindness might you perform that reflects His hesed—His steadfast love?
