Repaired by Light
In 1949, a microbiologist named Albert Kelner stumbled onto something remarkable. Working at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, he discovered that bacteria whose DNA had been shattered by ultraviolet radiation could be almost entirely restored — simply by exposing them to visible light. The phenomenon, called photoreactivation, revealed an enzyme now known as photolyase that uses the energy of blue light to physically reverse the damage ultraviolet radiation inflicts on DNA. The broken strands are made whole. Not patched. Not worked around. Actually repaired.
Think about that for a moment: light itself becomes the instrument of healing.
Scripture uses this same language to describe what the Almighty does with broken lives. Isaiah writes that the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. John tells us that in Christ was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Redemption is not God ignoring what sin has broken. It is not a cover-up or a workaround. It is God's light reaching into the deepest damage of the human soul and restoring what was shattered — bond by bond, strand by strand.
Whatever ultraviolet grief or guilt has fractured in your life, the Light of the World does not simply shine over the damage. He repairs it.
