Restored to Full Color

In 2018, director Peter Jackson released They Shall Not Grow Old, a documentary that stunned audiences worldwide. His team took original World War I footage — grainy, jerky, black-and-white film shot over a century ago — and digitally transformed it frame by frame. They stabilized the shaky images, converted them to natural color, adjusted the speed to realistic motion, and even hired lip readers to reconstruct what the soldiers were saying so voices could be added.

The result was breathtaking. Audiences who had seen those old clips a hundred times suddenly gasped. These weren't distant historical figures anymore. They were young men with ruddy cheeks and nervous smiles, standing in muddy trenches, looking directly into the camera — directly at you. The footage hadn't been replaced. Every frame was original. The transformation simply revealed what had always been there.

This is what the Holy Spirit does in a human life. God doesn't delete us and start over from scratch. Paul writes that we "are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory" (2 Corinthians 3:18). The Master Restorer takes the damaged, faded footage of our lives — every frame of failure, every scratch of sin — and works through it with patient, painstaking care. He stabilizes what was shaky. He adds color where everything had gone gray. He brings out the image of Christ that He embedded in us from the very beginning.

You are not beyond restoration. The original image — the one God designed — is still there, waiting for His transforming hand.
