Science Illustration: Stewardship of Technology
Imagine a small town nestled at the foot of a great mountain. For years, the townsfolk relied on an old, creaky waterwheel to provide their community with fresh water. It was dependable, yes, but limited. As technology advanced, engineers came to the town with a new plan: a modern aqueduct system that would channel pure mountain spring water directly into their homes. This project promised not only efficiency but also access to an abundance of life-giving water.
At first, many were resistant. They took comfort in the familiarity of the waterwheel, even as it creaked and groaned under the weight of their needs. But as the aqueduct was built, they began to witness something miraculous. The old waterwheel, once a symbol of sustenance, became a relic—a beautiful reminder of what had been, but not what could be.
This transformation reflects the promise in Revelation 21:1-5, where God declares, “Behold, I make all things new.” Just as the townsfolk needed to let go of their dependence on the old to embrace the new, we too are called to reconsider how we steward the gifts of technology in our lives. Are we clinging to outdated ways of thinking, or are we open to the guidance that God provides through innovation and progress?
As we embrace new tools, whether in our spiritual practices or daily lives, let us trust that God is leading us to a deeper purpose—a purpose that flows like that pure spring water, nourishing not just ourselves but our entire community.
