Science Illustration: Stewardship of Technology
A few years ago, I attended a local science fair where students showcased their projects. One exhibit caught my attention: a young girl had built a miniature ecosystem inside a glass jar. She had carefully arranged soil, plants, and even tiny creatures, all working in harmony. As I watched, she explained how each component relied on the others for survival. The plants provided oxygen and food, while the tiny insects helped pollinate and decompose organic matter. It was a beautiful reminder of interdependence in creation.
Then, she shared her secret: she had researched the balance of life within her jar, adjusting elements to ensure everything thrived together. This meticulous stewardship over her little world echoed the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:25-34, where He invites us not to worry about our daily needs, assuring us that even the lilies of the field are clothed more splendidly than kings. Just as this girl nurtured her ecosystem, we are called to be stewards of our lives and resources, seeking God’s kingdom first.
In this age of technology, we hold immense power in our hands—devices that connect us globally yet can distance us from our inner selves and each other. If we approach our technology with the same care and intentionality as that girl with her ecosystem, we can cultivate spiritual growth amidst the distractions. This calls us to discernment, a purpose-driven stewardship that reflects our faith. In doing so, we not only find our needs met but also become conduits of hope and life in a world yearning for connection.
