Show Don't Tell: Genesis 1:20-23
In the beginning, the earth lay cloaked in silence, a vast expanse of stillness waiting to be stirred. Then, with a single utterance, God breathed life into the waters. Imagine the surface of a tranquil lake, reflecting a breathtaking dawn, its glassy exterior suddenly shattered by the eruption of countless fish. Silver flashes leap through the air, scales glinting like diamonds in the rising sun. Schools of fish swirl around each other, a thousand shimmering bodies moving in unison, a mesmerizing dance that defies our understanding of individuality.
Deep beneath the surface, something stirs—a shadow glides through the depths, vast as a mountain, a primordial leviathan awakening. This ancient creature, untouched by humankind, rolls and twists through waters that have never known fear, a testament to the Creator's power.
Above this aquatic wonderland, the sky, once empty, bursts into life. The air vibrates with the sound of wings flapping, creating a symphony of movement that echoes the majesty of the Creator. Geese soar in formation, their honking a chorus of unity, while a hummingbird, with its iridescent plumage, defies gravity as it hovers, sipping nectar from the budding flowers along the shore.
And then, like a gentle whisper that grows into a triumphant song, the first birdsong breaks through the morning air—a melody so sweet it seems to awaken the very soul of creation. One voice transforms into a chorus, hundreds joining in harmonious praise, as if the heavens themselves are rejoicing. "Be fruitful," God commands, "multiply. Fill every ocean. Claim every sky." In that moment, the world is alive, an orchestra of creation responding to the divine invitation to flourish and thrive.
