This is a show dont tell prompt.
Imagine a parched landscape, the sun beating down like a relentless overseer. Abram stands at the edge of the Promised Land, the promise of God echoing in his mind. Yet, as a severe famine sweeps through Canaan, doubt begins to gnaw at his heart. He turns to Sarai, his beloved wife, and a desperate plan starts to unfold. “We must go to Egypt,” he tells her, his voice tight with anxiety. “Tell them you’re my sister. If they know you’re my wife, they’ll kill me to take you.”
Sarai's eyes widen in shock and betrayal, the warm glow of her faith flickering like a candle in a storm. She realizes the depth of her husband's fear, and with a heavy heart, she agrees. As they cross the border into Egypt, the air thickens with tension, and Sarai’s heart pounds with each step. The bustling streets greet them, filled with merchants shouting and children playing, but the colors of life fade for Sarai. The moment Pharaoh’s officials lay eyes on her, she is swept into the whirlwind of their desires, a jewel to be claimed by the most powerful man in the land.
Meanwhile, Abram stands at a distance, the very air around him crackling with the weight of his cowardice. He receives gifts—sheep, cattle, and servants—each one a reminder of the price of his deceit. But when plagues strike Pharaoh’s household, the mighty king, once enamored by Sarai’s beauty, becomes a voice of condemnation. “What have you done to me?” he demands, the moral authority of a pagan king cutting Abram to his core.
Escorted out of Egypt, laden with wealth but stripped of dignity, Abram carries the burden of his failure. The father of faith, reduced to a man of fear, leaves the land that promised blessing, his heart heavy with shame. In that moment, we see the stark reality of faith faltering: what should have been a testament to trust became a testament to trepidation. Let us not forget the lessons of our patriarch; in times of uncertainty, may our hearts cling ever closer to the promises of God.
