Show Don't Tell: Genesis 22:20-24

The sun hung low over the rugged hills of Canaan, casting long shadows as the dusty path wound its way down to Abraham's tent. Just as the earth felt the weight of the day, so did Abraham’s heart bear the weight of silence. He had recently experienced a profound encounter with God, one that required a willingness to sacrifice what he cherished most. But life, as it often does, continued to unfold beyond his immediate view.

Then, from the horizon, a figure appeared—a messenger with dust-covered sandals, his robe fluttering like a flag of hope. Abraham, sensing the urgency in the man's hurried steps, felt the tension release slightly as he approached. The air buzzed with anticipation. As the man caught his breath, his voice rang out, “Abraham! News from your brother Nahor!”

The words tumbled forth, each syllable like a pebble dropping into the still waters of Abraham's heart. “Nahor has eight sons!” he exclaimed, his tone filled with the weight of familial joy yet tinged with a hint of longing. Abraham's thoughts danced through the names, each son a thread woven into the tapestry of his lineage. And then, almost as an afterthought, the messenger continued, “And among them, there is a boy named Bethuel. He is the father of Rebekah.”

In that moment, the world around Abraham seemed to still. There, in distant Mesopotamia, a young girl was growing up, unknown yet destined to fulfill a divine purpose. God was already at work in ways Abraham could not even begin to fathom. The provision was being prepared, the promise woven into the very fabric of life, even as Abraham stood there, unaware of the beautiful plan unfolding. God was orchestrating a love story that would bridge continents and generations, reminding Abraham—and all of us—that His hand is at work behind the scenes, crafting our destinies long before we even dream of them.
