Show Don't Tell: Genesis 32:22-32
Beneath a vast, starlit sky, Jacob stood by the Jabbok River, the cool night air wrapping around him like a heavy cloak. He had sent everyone across—his beloved wives, their children, the flocks that had become his livelihood—leaving him utterly alone. The darkness pressed in, thick and suffocating, as his heart pounded with a mix of fear and anticipation. He was about to face his brother Esau, the very brother whose birthright he had stolen.
Suddenly, the stillness shattered. A shadow lunged at him from the darkness, hands like iron grasping his arms. Jacob fought back instinctively, engaging in a primal struggle that seemed to echo throughout the valley. Dust rose around them as they grappled, muscles straining and hearts racing, two beings locked in a desperate dance of wills.
Hours passed in the shadows, the only sound their grunts and heavy breaths. Jacob could feel the impending dawn in his bones, a light creeping over the horizon, but he refused to yield. Just as the first rays of sunlight illuminated the world, the stranger—this mysterious figure—touched Jacob’s hip with a force that sent lightning through his body, dislocating it with a jolt of pain.
But Jacob, now marked by agony, clung tighter, his spirit ignited. "I will not let you go unless you bless me!" he cried, his voice raw with desperation.
